Chapter 5: “The Presentation”

Notes from presentation:

Good morning,

Thank you for the nice introduction

Honor and a pleasure, to be among many famous guest speakers

I’ve been coming to AAMA conferences since 2001

A lot of great speakers, I was on the education committee for 2 years, know what a challenge to find speakers

Not sure how I made the list, third, last I guess

I did volunteer to do 15 minutes, I guess this isn’t it

I’ll find out when I get the stretch sign instead of the 5 minutes to go sign

Came out on Sunday, business at the AF hospital On the plane out the copilots name was justin case

I grew up in WV, not much to do there, coal mines, military, fireman

Joined the AF and they made me a dental technician, do remember one pt education advice, floss only the ones you want to keep

First and only assignment, Charleston SC, where I met my lovely wife of now almost 26 years

Got out of the AF, taught community college on upstate SC

Stayed in the Reserves, became MSC, and back to AD in 98

3 assignments; AL, Tx schoolhouse, and then Patrick AFB:

Was fortunate enough to do 6 months in afghan

Retired in 2008, GS job, with all these hats, honored to stay pt safety has won af level award 2 years in a row

Decided to try something else and working as a program manager for the AF class contractors

So, as the pt safety mgr and risk mgr got to hear many stories of what I call unexpected outcomes

This one in particular happened downtown at a surgery center but it was one of our patients and I got his permission to tell his story

Now I must warn you that if you are pregnant or have weak heart, you may want to look away
